WC HISTORY

Hockey world championships for men are delivered since 1971.

After long discussions the worldhockey federation (FIH) decided in 1969 to introduce a world-wide tournament taking place every 2 years and named "World Hockey Cup". In 1975 the rhythm were changed to the today's 4-years-period. In order to place the WC in the middle between the olympic years a distance of 3 years was inserted uniquely.
